PUREBRED CHAROLAIS HERD
In the spring of 2022 we started to build our purebred Charolais herd. We bought our first two purebred heifers from M&L Cattle Company in March and a first calf heifer with a bull calf from Fondoak Farm in July. In 2023 we significantly expanded the purebred portion of our herd with selections from Mack's dispersal, Blackbern Charolais, and Potter's dispersal. In our selections we targeted females that we felt had good temperaments, udders, feet, and legs. We wanted sound females that could go to work and expand the herd through good breeding, and raise good bulls with the commercial producer in mind. Our breeding relies heavily on artificial insemination which has allowed us to access top genetics in the Charolais breed. In our AI selections we have targeted sires that we hope will continue to improve the quality of females in our herd.
BULLS FOR SALE
This spring we will be offering five bulls for sale through private treaty. We have one October-born and two January-born bulls that will be available starting in March 2025 and two March-born bulls that will be available in May 2025. This timing is mainly to allow the bulls to receive a fair breeding soundness evaluation to ensure that they will go to work for you. Bulls will sell under the standard terms of the Canadian Charolais Association, will have a breeding soundness evaluation by a veterinarian, and will be vaccinated with Pyramid V Presponse before being released (if you require a blackleg vaccination prior to receiving your bull that can be arranged. We have also sent off tissue samples to the CCA lab to do a 100k test, polled test, and to test for progressive ataxia to give you improved data to make your selection. Bulls are available for viewing on the farm.
